FALLING LEAVES (2020)
Paintings made of real leaves–dried, pressed, and hand cut–each from a tree in a distinct San Francisco neighborhood.

Leaves are hand-picked in San Francisco, only available during set times of the year. Ginkgos are unique in that their leaves fall all at once, creating colorful spreads of yellow all over the city.
Each Ginkgo leaf is hand dried and pressed, maintaining its unique skeleton shape. Layers of acrylic matte medium add a light sheen but still allow the leaves to appear visibly naked.
The Ginkgos are complimented with natural textures resembling sand and mountains. The intention is to bring the outside in, creating scenescapes that, despite being dead, remain alive.
The natural gradients of Ginkgos–from their forest greens to bright yellows–pull the pieces together as one cohesive artifact.
